In short

An IATA airport code is three Latin letters: SVO for Sheremetyevo, LED for Pulkovo, KUF for Samara. The code goes on the air waybill and the cargo labels and routes the cargo to its flight. Here are the codes of 56 Russian regional airports we ship to from Moscow.

Airport codes in Russia, as everywhere in the world, are assigned by IATA (the International Air Transport Association): each airport has three Latin letters. Sheremetyevo is SVO, Pulkovo is LED, Samara airport is KUF. The code goes on the air waybill and on the labels of cargo pieces, and the warehouse uses it to send the cargo to the right flight. Below are the codes of 56 Russian regional airports we ship to from Moscow, and the cases where codes get mixed up most often.

CargoBooking is an air freight forwarder in Moscow working since 2019 and an Aeroflot cargo agent since 2019. More in About CargoBooking. Write to us in English or Russian.

What is an IATA airport code?

It is the three-letter code of an airport or a city in the IATA directory. You can check any code in the official IATA code search: it shows up to five matches by city name or by code.

The IATA code is used wherever there must be no ambiguity: on tickets, baggage tags, air waybills, and in cargo tracking statuses. On our website, the code is also part of the route page address. The route from Sheremetyevo to Vladivostok is at cargobooking.ru/SVO/VVO (in Russian): first the departure airport code, then the destination airport code.

An airport also has a second code, from ICAO (the International Civil Aviation Organization). It has four letters and is used by air traffic controllers and pilots. For Russian airports it starts with the letter U: Sheremetyevo UUEE, Pulkovo ULLI, Koltsovo USSS, Vladivostok UHWW. A cargo shipper usually does not need the ICAO code.

What are the codes of the Moscow airports?

Moscow has four airports with scheduled flights, each with its own code:

AirportIATA code
SheremetyevoSVO
DomodedovoDME
VnukovoVKO
ZhukovskyZIA

Moscow also has the city code MOW. In the IATA directory it covers the whole Moscow airport group at once. But cargo is delivered to the warehouse of a specific airport, so the air waybill shows the airport code, not the city code. As an Aeroflot agent, we ship cargo from Sheremetyevo through Moscow Cargo, the cargo terminal at Sheremetyevo.

Codes of Russian regional airports

The tables list the codes of all Russian regional airports for which we had route pages from Sheremetyevo as of October 24, 2026. The codes were checked against the open airport database OurAirports. The groups follow the regional sections of our website. Where an airport has no name of its own, the last column says "city name".

Where do people mix up airport codes most often?

The code does not look like the city. LED for St. Petersburg, KUF for Samara, GOJ for Nizhny Novgorod, AER for Sochi, NBC for Nizhnekamsk. In the Aeroflot airport table, AER is listed as "Adler (Sochi)". Do not guess a code from the first letters of the city: look it up.

The airport is in another town. Vladivostok airport is in Artyom, and the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airport is called Yelizovo. The air waybill shows the airport code, and the consignee should know in advance where to go for the cargo.

Similar codes. KJA is Krasnoyarsk, KHV is Khabarovsk, KGD is Kaliningrad. A typo in the code can send the cargo to the wrong airport. When you check an air waybill, check the destination airport code, not only the city name.

The same letters mean something else. PKC is the code of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airport. But in Aeroflot documents PKC also means a small aircraft pallet for the A320 and A321. On the air waybill, the airport code is in the routing field, so there is no confusion there. In emails it is safer to write "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (PKC)".

What to do before shipping?

  1. Find the destination city in the table and note the airport code.
  2. If there are several airports near the city, ask the consignee where it is more convenient to collect the cargo.
  3. Put the code in the booking request together with the departure airport. In its booking rules (in Russian), Aeroflot requires the departure, transfer and destination airports in the booking request.
  4. Check the code on the air waybill before you hand the cargo over to the warehouse.

Frequently asked questions

What are the codes of the Moscow airports?
Sheremetyevo is SVO, Domodedovo DME, Vnukovo VKO, Zhukovsky ZIA. There is also the city code MOW: in the IATA directory it covers all Moscow airports at once. Cargo is delivered to the warehouse of a specific airport, so the air waybill shows that airport's code.
Why is St. Petersburg LED?
An IATA code does not have to match the city name. Pulkovo in St. Petersburg is LED, Samara airport KUF, Nizhny Novgorod GOJ, Sochi AER. So check the code in a table instead of guessing it from the first letters of the city.
What is the difference between IATA and ICAO codes?
The three-letter IATA code is used on tickets, air waybills and tags. The four-letter ICAO code is used by air traffic controllers and pilots. Sheremetyevo is SVO in IATA and UUEE in ICAO; Pulkovo is LED and ULLI.
Where is the airport code on the air waybill?
In the Airport of Departure, Routing and Airport of Destination fields. Aeroflot requires the departure, transfer and destination airports already in the booking request.
How many Russian airports are in the CargoBooking network?
As of October 24, 2026, we have 56 route pages from Sheremetyevo to Russian regional airports, from Kaliningrad (KGD) to Anadyr (DYR). All codes are in the tables of this guide.
